CLEMON E. NELMS

Feb. 23, 1923-Sept. 26, 2009

LOUISBURG -- Clemon Edwin Nelms, 86, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother of Centerville, went home to be with the Lord Saturday surrounded by his loving family.

The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today at Red Bud Baptist Church, 832 NC 58 in Castalia. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Nelms was the husband of Ella Ruth Wood Nelms, his wife of 66 years.

Mr. Nelms worked for the state of North Carolina DOT for 39 years. He was also a lifelong farmer, known for his kindness and generosity to all.

Mr. Nelms was a friend to everyone he met. He was a devoted member of Red Bud Baptist Church.

He is also survived by his sons, Larry Nelms of Centerville, Henry Nelms and wife, Margaret, of Centerville and Julian Nelms and wife, Gwynne, of Fremont; his daughter, Andree' Nelms Foster and husband, Rex, of Centerville,; his grandchildren, Allen Nelms and wife, Kelly, Edwin Foster and wife, Michelle, Adam Nelms and wife, Pamela, L.C. Nelms and wife, Lois, Alison Foster Kennedy and husband, Jason, Boyd Nelms, Ashley Nelms Smith and husband, Adam, and Lee Nelms; four great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; his brothers, T.O. Nelms and wife, Catherine, Lloyd Nelms, Delton Nelms and wife, Nancy; sister, Carlette Nelms Adams; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Mr. Nelms was preceded in death by his brothers, Melvin and Ensley Nelms; sister, Veryl Nelms Wood; and parents, George Allen and Mary Collins Nelms.

The family celebrated his life with friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services, 804 N. Bickett Blvd. in Louisburg.
