FREMONT -- Elizabeth Hooks, age 86, passed way Sunday at Wilson Medical Center.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont, with elder Jimmy Aycock officiating.

Miss Hooks was an only child of Willie and Sallie Elizabeth Person Hooks born in Wayne County Jan. 21, 1923.

She retired from ASCS after completing 34 years of service.

Miss Hooks was a graduate of Fremont High School. She completed a commercial course at Atlantic Christian College in Wilson and during World War II, worked with Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corp. in Elizabeth City.

She enjoyed fishing in a pond on the family farm and traveling. She also enjoyed working in the yard with flowers and shrubs. In her spare time, Miss Hooks was a volunteer at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Miss Hooks is survived by several cousins including her special cousin and caretakers, John Hooks and wife, Joyce, of Kenly, and special friends, Steven "Shorty" Ferrell and wife, Frances, of Fremont.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home, 102 N. Pine St., in Fremont.
