Robert Edward Mooring Jr., 49, 208 Plantation Road, went to be with his Savior Monday night at his home after playing his favorite sport, church softball.

Funeral services will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at Pikeville Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Sauls officiating. Interment will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont.

Edward was born in Wayne County on May 21, 1960, to Jean Cuddington Mooring and the late Robert Edward Mooring Sr.

He was an estimator with Convenient Glass Co.

Edward was a lifetime member of Pikeville Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as former building committee treasurer and was a former deacon. He was also a member of the church choir, was a Sunday school teacher and was director of children's church for many years. He also served as the Neuse River District C.C. Director for the Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.

Edward enjoyed coaching and playing church softball. He enjoyed life and working out with his family and had the gift of making people laugh.

He will be remembered by many in his church, especially the children, for his puppet character, Grandpa. The love of Edward's life was God, his family, his church family and Tarheel Sports. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Robin Riley Mooring; his son, Robert Edward "Trey" Mooring III of Fort Bragg; his daughters, Elizabeth Mooring and fiancé, Freddie Sutton, and Meredith Mooring, both of the home; and his brothers, Mark Mooring and wife, Donna, of Goldsboro and Kenan Mooring and wife, Laura, of Pikeville. He is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jimmy and Marilyn Sutton; his brothers-in-law, Vince Riley and wife, Diane, Chris Riley and wife, Deborah, Jay Sutton and wife, Vickie, Tim Riley and wife, Brenda, Warren Riley and wife, Tracie, and Wes Sutton and wife, Tony Lynn; and 17 nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Edward Mooring Memorial Fund, in care of Heritage Bank, P.O. Box 1166, Fremont, NC, 27830.

The family will receive friends at the church following the funeral service and at other times at his home.
