Cora Lee Dickerson Harper, 90, lovingly known by her family and church friends as "Mother Harper" 167 Best Ave., her earthly life's journey ended peacefully Tuesday at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Bear Creek Association Headquarters Building, 1800 S. Slocumb St., Goldsboro, with elder George Wiggins officiating. Burial will follow in Broadhurst Family Cemetery, 667 Indian Springs Road, Seven Springs.

Cora Lee was born in Wayne County July 27, 1918, and was the daughter of the late John Dickerson and Zannie Darring Dickerson.

She attended Wayne County Schools and was employed at O'Berry Center for 18 years. Mrs. Harper had a passion for people and worked in the infirmary caring for individuals who were stricken with mental retardation.

At an early age, Mother Harper expressed and confessed her faith in God and joined White Oak Grove Baptist Church in Pikeville. She was a faithful member for 75 years, serving in different capacities.

Mother Harper was united in holy matrimony to the late John Henry Harper Nov. 24, 1938. The two were married for 52 years, with John Henry preceding her in death in 1990.

Although they had no biological children, they were blessed to share their love and home with their niece and foster daughter, Delores Ingram Franklin, who entered eternal rest in 2004.

She survived as the lone family matriarch.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory two grandsons, Dedrian Franklin of the home and Demont Ingram of Raleigh; three great-grandchildren, Jordan Molette, Nehemiah Underwood and Annanyah Coley; four sisters-in-law; Mary Hicks, Fremont and Henrietta Harper, Gladys Harper and Hattie Harper all of Goldsboro; one brother-in-law; Ezekiel Harper of Goldsboro; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives; and an abundance of God's children.

In addition to her parents, all eight of her siblings, John, Nancy, Cornell, Mazzie, Ralph, Mercie Dee, Maybelle and Elgia, preceded her in death.

A viewing will be held Friday at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St., Goldsboro, from 1 to 7:30 p.m. Also, a wake will be held from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. with the family present to receive other family members and friends.

At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence of Mother Cora Lee Harper, 167 Best Ave., Goldsboro.
