WILLIAM B. STACKHOUSE

Aug. 8, 1919- April 11, 2009

William "Bill" Byne Stackhouse, 89, died Saturday afternoon at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Formerly of Jacksonville, Fla., he resided at 224 S. Hillcrest Drive since 1997.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Park, 2925 Hwy. 117 N., Dudley, with the Rev. Thomas O. Harper officiating.

The family will receive friends after the service and other times at the residence.

Surviving is his wife, Elva Elliott Stackhouse; sons, Dr. William James "Jim" Stackhouse and his wife, Joyce Keller, of Goldsboro, Kenneth "Ken" Byne Stackhouse and his wife, Pat, of San Jose, Calif., and Randall "Randy" Elliott Stackhouse and his wife, Celeste, of Indialantic, Fla.; six grandchildren, Curtis, Russell and Stephen Stackhouse of Goldsboro and Timothy, Katrina and Sabrina Stackhouse of Indialantic; and sister, Daisy Ingram and her husband, Arch C. Ingram Sr., of Wilmington.

A native of St. John's County, Fla., he was the son of the late Mary Ann Byne Stackhouse and the late William Shuppert Stackhouse. Bill served in the Army during World War II as a captain in an engineer battalion.

He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Jacksonville. He retired from CSX Railroad Co. in Jacksonville as a civil engineer.

His favorite pastime was talking to his ham radio friends.

The family suggests that donations be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, in memory of Bill Stackhouse.

Arrangements are being handled by Evergreen Memorial Service of Goldsboro.
