JOHN PATRICK ALPHIN

LaGRANGE -- John Patrick Alphin, 19, of LaGrange, died Friday, April 10, 2009.

A service of remembrance will be held Sunday, April 12, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Faith Fellowship Church, 2278 Paul's Path Road, Kinston, with Dr. Randy Spaugh officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

John was a 2008 graduate of North Lenoir High School and presently a freshman at East Carolina University. While attending North Lenoir High School, John was a standout athlete. He was a member of the 2006 NCHSAA State Champion Baseball Team and the 2007 runner-up. John received numerous awards including the 2004-2005 Outstanding J.V. Player, Best Offensive Player 2005-2006, 2008 Varsity Baseball MVP, Goldsboro News-Argus 2008 Area Player of the Year, Eastern Plains Conference 2008 Baseball Player of the Year and 2008 North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association All-State. John recently received the Clyde King Award for Outstanding High School Pitcher. He excelled academically, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and received the 2008 North Lenoir Faculty Award. John was a workout warrior and enjoyed spending time in the gym and with his friends. John was a member of Faith Fellowship Church.

John is survived by his parents, Carlton and Lisa Barnes Alphin; brother, Jacob Alphin; maternal grandparents, Harold and Carolyn Barnes, Mark and Gilda Hollar; aunts and uncles, Lori Gray, William Harold and Terry Barnes, Jay and Marla Alphin, Norman and Kay Davis; cousins, Madison and Tyler Gray, Zachary and Abigail Alphin, Holly and Mark Gentry, Dana and David Thacker, April and Jonathan Wiggins, Stephen Mozingo. John was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Jackie Hollar; and paternal grandparents, Herbert and Hazel Alphin.

Friends will be received at the Alphin home following the cemetery committal service. Memorials may be made to the John Patrick Alphin Memorial Scholarship, c/o North Lenoir High School, 2400 Institute Road, LaGrange, NC 28551. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com.
