Soccer ~ Wayne Country Day routs Burlington School

Langley Barnes scored three goals, four different players filed assists and Wayne Country Day pummeled the Burlington School, 5-1, on Thursday.

Katie Strickland, Lexi Jeffreys, Hayden Neilsen and Barnes tallied assists for WCDS, which also got goals from Kathryn Hamilton and Neilsen.

"Good performance to follow up the East Wake tie last Friday," head coach Steve Ellis said. "Our attacking play was really good today and probably should have scored more than we did."

WCDS (1-0-1) is idle until its  March 20 match with CPIC rival Wayne Christian.

Tennis

Eastern Wayne 6,

J.H. Rose 3

Eastern Wayne won two of three doubles matches on Thursday, then rolled through singles play to post a 6-3 triumph over ECC foe J.H. Rose.

"This was a hard-fought conference win amidst windy conditions," head coach Craig Hassell said of the affair, which moved the Warriors to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in league matters.

Sam Dively earned the only win on an otherwise long afternoon for the Wayne Country Day boys' tennis outfit on Thursday.

Dively posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Jeevan Tewari in singles play, helping Country Day avoid a sweep.

The Chargers are back in action today versus Lawrence Academy at 3 p.m.

Wayne Country Day 12

KINSTON -- Amane Godo went 2 for 3 with 4 RBI as Wayne Country Day fell to Arendell Parrott Academy, 13-12, on Wednesday.

The setback moved WCDS to 2-1 on the season.

Case Kermode also performed well for the Chargers, going 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI. Cole Brewer also tallied two RBI.

Wayne Country Day returns to the diamond this afternoon versus Lawrence Academy.

Softball

Southern Wayne 25,

North Lenoir 8

LAGRANGE -- Dawn Anderson fanned seven, Kelly Dail cranked out seven RBI and Southern Wayne waltzed past North Lenoir, 25-8, on Wednesday.

Dail's afternoon included a 3 for 4 effort at the plate, while freshman Abbey Parker contributed four base hits and three RBI.

Madison Holmes also factored prominently in the landslide, going 3 of 4 with two RBI. 

Junior Mackenzie Bryan rounded out the scoring onslaught for the Lady Saints by going 3 of 4 with four RBI.

Anderson's victory in the circle included just one walked batter.

Southern Wayne, now 2-2 overall this season, plays host to ECC foe South Central today.

First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Beddingfield 7,

Goldsboro 2

Goldsboro could muster just two hits during Wednesday's setback to non-conference opponent Beddingfield.

Sophomore Taylor Lane and Mary Archibald reached for the hosts, who fell to 0-4 on the season with the loss.

Goldsboro next sees the diamond today, when it plays host to East Central 2A outfit James Kenan.

First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Spring Creek 4,

Midway 2

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek moved to 5-0 on Wednesday with a 4-2 victory over East Central 2A foe Midway.

Madison Sullivan, Mirna Santiago, Jordan Lane and Michele Roblero launched one-timers for the Lady Gators, who also got an assist from Bianca Cuevas.

SC travels to face East Duplin tonight at 6 p.m.

New Bern 5,

C.B. Aycock 1

NEW BERN -- Charles B. Aycock suffered at the might of New Bern on Wednesday in an ECC road loss.

Hannah Spier scored the lone goal for the visitors, assisted by Taylor Smith.

CBA, now 2-2-1 on the season, returns to the pitch on March 20, when it plays host to West Johnston.
