Baseball

DUDLEY -- Justin Edwards scattered four hits over seven innings, Josh Grady and Lance Wise had two hits apiece and Southern Wayne spilled ECC and county rival C.B. Aycock, 5-2, on Tuesday.

The victory moved Southern Wayne to 5-3 overall this season, and 2-2 in league play.

Jack Casbarro and Dylan Whitley also factored for the Saints, each providing an RBI.

Edwards, in control throughout, finished the contest with eight strikeouts and just one walk.

C.B. Aycock was paced offensively by Carson Smitherman, who finished the afternoon 1 for 3 with and RBI.

Senior Nolan Harrell went 1 for 3 with a double.

Ace Cody Whaley absorbed the loss for CBA, allowing four runs on four hits in five innings.

Southern Wayne returns to the diamond on Thursday at D.H. Conley, while C.B. Aycock (8-3, 2-3 ECC 3A) travels to face South Central.

Goldsboro 7,

Wallace-Rose Hill 3

Josh Hartsfield struck out eight as Goldsboro turned back East Central 2A outfit Wallace-Rose Hill, 7-3, on Tuesday.

He also performed ably at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a triple and two RBI.

Natorian Nobles recorded two hits, while Matthew Lewis, Cameron Roux and Trey Adams added one base hit apiece.

Goldsboro (4-3, 1-1 East Central 2A) plays host to Spring Creek on Thursday.

Spring Creek 9,

Clinton 3

SEVEN  SPRINGS -- Nathan Bell allowed three runs on six hits and produced two RBI as Spring Creek outclassed visiting Clinton High, 9-3, on Tuesday.

The Gators now stand 3-5 overall, and 1-3 in EC 2A play.

Kevin Grady also factored prominently for the hosts, going 1 for 2 at the plate with an RBI.

Four other Gators -- Landon Smothers, Casey Whitfield, Jake Edens and Spencer Jameson -- also scored runners for the hosts, who travel to face Goldsboro on Thursday.  

Wayne Christian 20,

Christ Covenant 3

Cole Jacobs and Austin Kornegay had three RBI apiece as Wayne Christian throttled Christ Covenant, 20-3, on Tuesday.

Will White earned the victory for the Eagles, allowing just two hits in the abbreviated affair.

WC now stands 3-2 overall, and 1-0 in league play.

Softball

C.B. Aycock 22,

Southern Wayne 7

DUDLEY -- Marie Kidd struck out five in four innings of work, Cassandra Lassiter went 4 of 5 with an RBI and Charles B. Aycock defeated ECC 3A and county rival Southern Wayne, 22-7, on Tuesday.

CBA now stands 9-1 overall, and 5-0 in league play.

Georgia Parnell went 3 of 4 with an RBI, while Makayla Williams added a pair of base hits and three RBI.

Abigail Lancaster also recorded two base hits for CBA, which travels to South Central on Thursday.

Southern Wayne (4-5, 2-2 ECC) also returns to the diamond on Thursday as the guest of D.H. Conley. 

Soccer

C.B. Aycock 7,

Southern Wayne 2

PIKEVILLE -- Hannah Spier scored two goals and five other Golden Falcons found the net once each as Charles B. Aycock steamrolled Southern Wayne, 7-2, on Tuesday.

Kayla Spier (two assists), Colleen Jones, Lydia Butler (two assists), Morgan Quinn and Annabelle Watkins completed the shellacking for CBA, who moved to 3-5-3 overall, and 1-3-1 in ECC 3A play.

Southern Wayne now stands 2-6 overall this season, and 0-3 in league matters.

WCDS 9,

Ridgecroft 0

Langley Barnes and Hayden Nielsen combined for nine goals as Wayne Country Day (3-0-1) routed Ridgecroft on Tuesday.

Barnes, who scored five goals, and Nielsen, who found the net four times, were assisted by Lexi Jeffreys, Anna Kierski, Kathryn Hamilton and Mia Bolechowski.

Princeton 8,

North Duplin 1

PRINCETON -- Esbeydy Bautista and Rachel Creech scored two goals apiece as Princeton outdistanced Carolina 1A rival North Duplin, 8-1, on Tuesday.

Morgan Fields, Allie Britt, Veronica Blackman and Emma Marques also scored for the Bulldogs, who moved to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in league play with the victory.

North Duplin fell to 2-6-1 and 2-3 with the setback.

Tennis

New Bern 6,

Eastern Wayne 3

Eastern Wayne fell to 2-6 overall and 2-5 in ECC play with a 6-3 setback to New Bern on Tuesday.

Dylan March, who won in singles and partnered with Walker Davis for the only EW doubles victory, once again did the heavy lifting for the Warriors.

Anass Sarah secured the other EW triumph in singles.

Late Monday

Eastern Wayne 10,

Goldsboro 0

Colby Miller shined at the plate, sophomore Landon Ginn was untouchable on the hill and Eastern Wayne turned back county rival Goldsboro, 10--0, on Monday.

Miller's effort at the dish included a 3 of 4 showing with two RBI. The Warriors also got production from Josh Gross, Jason Mitchell and Wesley Case, each of whom reached base and scored a runner.

The remainder belonged to Ginn.

Over four frames, the East Carolina University commit was rock-solid, allowing just one hit and striking out eight. He also inflicted damage in the box, finishing the contest with a home run and three RBI.

Eastern Wayne (1-7 overall) entertains non-conference foe Greene Central today at 5 p.m.

Goldsboro is now 4-3 overall this season.

Softball

CLAYTON -- Cassandra Lassiter scattered eight hits over seven innings and Makayla Williams drove home the winning run as Charles B. Aycock rallied to turn back Cleveland High, 2-1, on Monday.

Lassiter's effort in the circle, which included three strikeouts and no walks, was her fourth victory of the season.

Abbey Thomas paced the offense by going 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, while Georgia Parnell and Taylor Puetz each added base hits.

Williams provided the game winning hit to complete CBA's rally from two runs down in the top of the seventh inning.

CBA now stands 8-0 overall this season.

Goldsboro 13,

Eastern Wayne 3

Goldsboro moved to 3-5 overall this season with a 13-3 triumph over non-conference foe Eastern Wayne on Monday.

The Lady Warriors are winless on the season.

Rosewood 16,

Lakewood 0

Kaitlyn Kincaid and Macy Tyndall combined for a two-hit shutout, Laine Marak tendered a dominant effort at the plate and Rosewood outclassed Carolina 1A foe Lakewood, 16-0, on Monday.

The victory moved the Lady Eagles to 3-4 overall this season, and 2-1 in matters of league significance.

Marak finished the afternoon with a double, a home run and three RBI, while Macy Tyndall went 2 of 4 with a pair of RBI.

Alyssa Smothers also provided two base hits and three RBI for Rosewood, which essentially ended the affair with a 13-run outburst in its half of the third frame. 

Allecia Langdon also performed ably the RHS, going 1 for 2 with two RBI. Torree Marak provided a base hit and two RBI, while Braylee Butts went 2 for 2 with a triple and an RBI.

Rylee Joe Myers completed the purple-and-gold onslaught with a 2 for 3 effort at the plate.

Kincaid and Tyndall were excellent in the circle for the hosts, combining to allow one hit while striking out three.

Rosewood returns to the diamond on Thursday, when it plays host to league outfit Neuse Charter.

Soccer

Wilson Hunt 3,

C.B. Aycock 0

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock fell to non-conference foe Wilson Hunt, 3-nil, on Monday.

The loss moved CBA to 2-2-2 overall this season, and 0-3-1 in Eastern Carolina 3A play.

Goldsboro 3,

Eastern Wayne 2

Abigail Lewis, McKayla Roberts and Shakia Doctor each scored goals to lead Goldsboro past non-conference foe Eastern Wayne, 3-2, on Monday.

Junior keeper Selena Morales earned the win for GHS, stopping 2 of 4 shots on goal.

Goldsboro now stands 5-3 overall this season.

Eastern Wayne is 2-4-1 overall this season ahead of a Thursday tilt with ECC 3A foe J.H. Rose.

John Paul II 3,

Wayne Christian 3

Kasey Norris, Paige Court and Natalie Rheingruber each scored goals on Monday as Wayne Christian forged a draw, 3-all, with visiting John Paul II.

Court and Annalise Fitzmorris provided assists for the Lady Eagles, who now stand 0-1-1 overall this season.

Tennis

Wayne Country Day dropped its third consecutive match on Monday, 6-3, to visiting Parrott Academy.

Golf

New Bern claims ECC match

DUDLEY -- New Bern claimed Monday's ECC 3A/4A match at Southern Wayne Country Club by 21 shots over second-place J.H. Rose.

South Central finished third with a team score of 343, while C.B. Aycock (343) claimed fourth place.

D.H. Conley (369), Southern Wayne (422) and Eastern Wayne (453) rounded out the leaderboard.

Bryce Jones paced CBA with a 5-over par round of 76, while Carl Floars fashioned an 83.

Daniel Barnes toured the 6,270-yard, par-71 layout in 90 shots, while Jacob Thigpen signed for 94.

Malik Maat rounded out the Golden Falcons' effort with a total of 111.
