Prep Baseball
C.B. Aycock spills Wilson Hunt
PIKEVILLE -- Luke Frederick tossed four stellar frames and Tyler Daniels went 2 for 3 with three RBI as Charles B. Aycock turned back Wilson Hunt, 4-1, on Friday.
Frederick (1-0) was solid throughout his start, allowing just one run on four hits and striking out four in a 68-pitch stint.
Senior Zack Brewer earned his first save of the season, fanning three batters in two innings of work.
Daniels' effort at the plate was complemented by Blake Dilda, who finished 2 for 3 with a double.
Nolan Harrell added an RBI for the Golden Falcons (5-0), who open ECC 3A play on Tuesday at home with a 5 p.m. tilt versus New Bern.
North Lenoir 11,
Eastern Wayne 8
Sophomore Landon Ginn went 1 for 3 with three RBI on Friday during Eastern Wayne's 11-8 setback to non-conference foe North Lenoir.
Ryan Sullivan and Will Uzzell also added two base hits apiece for the Warriors, who fell to 0-4 on the season.
Sullivan absorbed the loss for Eastern Wayne, allowing seven runs on eight hits in 31⁄3 innings.
The Warriors next see the diamond on Tuesday, when they visit D.H. Conley.
Wilson Fike 2,
Southern Wayne 1 (8 Inn.)
WILSON -- Aryc Chrisman scattered four hits over seven strong innings on Friday, but it wasn't enough to topple Fike in a road non-conference matchup.
The Saints could muster just a pair of base hits on the night, and saw their hopes for victory dashed when a fielding error in the eighth inning plated Fike's winning run.
Southern Wayne (2-1) returns to action on Monday, when it plays host to Jacksonville.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Rosewood 10,
Spring Creek 0
Leadoff man Chance Howard went 2 for 3 with two RBI, senior right-hander Kolby Harris sprinkled four hits over as many innings and Rosewood turned back Spring Creek, 10-0, on Friday.
The victory evened Rosewood's record at 1-1 this season.
Senior Jonathan Peacock also enjoyed a profitable day at the plate for Rosewood, going 2 for 2 with two RBI. Conner Vernon, Patrick Jones and Tanner Capps also crossed runners for the Eagles.
Spring Creek (2-2) managed just four hits in the contest, two of which came from the bat of junior shortstop Landon Smothers.
Both clubs return to the diamond this week. Rosewood hosts South Lenoir on Monday, while Spring Creek entertains East Central 2A foe Midway on Tuesday.
Wayne Country Day 12,
Kerr Vance 10 (8 inn.)
Case Kermode's three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning boosted Wayne Country Day to a season-opening victory on Friday over defending NCISAA state titlist Kerr-Vance Academy.
In addition to Kermode, who finished the afternoon with five RBI, the Chargers also received quality axe-work from Avery Browning, who fashioned three base hits, and Amane Godo, who contributed two base knocks and a pair of RBI.
Godo also earned the mound victory for WCDS, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out six in four innings of work.
Softball
North Duplin 18,
James Kenan
CALYPSO -- Callie Thornton allowed three runs over five innings, Hannah Brogden went 3 for 3 with two RBI and North Duplin ran away from James Kenan, 18-3, on Friday.
Thornton's winning effort in the circle also included three strikeouts and a pair of walks.
Offensively, North Duplin (4-0) rapped out 13 hits in the contest, paced by Brogden and further substantiated by Thornton (2 for 4, three RBI) and Ivey Cashwell, who also contributed two RBI.
North Duplin, which has plated 66 runs in four games, next sees the diamond on Monday versus Neuse Charter.
Charles B. Aycock 11,
Wilson Hunt 5
PIKEVILLE -- Georgia Parnell went 4 for 4 with two RBI, Marie Kidd scattered eight hits over seven innings and Charles B. Aycock turned back Wilson Hunt, 11-5, on Friday.
Senior Cassandra Lassiter went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI, while Abbey Thomas finished 3 for 3 with an RBI.
Kidd (2-0) struck out four en route to the complete-game victory.
CBA next faces New Bern at home on Tuesday.
Halifax Academy 4,
Wayne Christian 0
ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Wayne Christian suffered a 4-0 setback on Friday versus Halifax Academy.
Bri Verme absorbed the loss for the Lady Eagles, allowing four runs on four hits. She also struck out seven.
WC (0-2) is idle until March 15 versus Community Christian.
Soccer
Eastern Wayne 4,
Rosewood 0
Claire Molloy scored four goals on Friday, pacing Eastern Wayne to a runout triumph over non-conference foe Rosewood.
Molloy was assisted by Martha Alyea and Colleen Christie.
Eastern Wayne, now 2-1 on the season, returns to the pitch on Tuesday versus D.H. Conley.
Rosewood (0-2) plays host to South Lenoir on Monday.
Southern Wayne 8,
North Lenoir 1
LAGRANGE -- Daylan Wiggs, Kenia Flores and Llanira Rodriguez each scored two goals in Friday's landslide triumph over North Lenoir.
Freshman Morgan Kennedy and Caroline Best also scored for the Lady Saints, who moved to 2-3 overall this season.
Southern Wayne welcomes Northern Nash on Monday at 5 p.m.
Goldsboro 3,
Greenfield 0
WILSON -- McKayla Roberts, Nana Hardy-Davis and Hannah Williamson each scored goals as Goldsboro dispatched Greenfield, 3-nil, on Friday at the Brittany Showcase.
GHS is now 3-1 on the season.

Colby Miller went 3 for 4 with a pair of RBI during Eastern Wayne's 7-5 setback to Wilson Hunt on Thursday.
The Warriors now stand 0-3 on the season.
Sophomore Landon Ginn also factored prominently for the hosts, going 2 for 2 in the box with two RBI.
Ryan Sullivan, Will Uzzell, Josh Gross and Jason Mitchell also added base hits for Eastern Wayne, who failed to match two Hunt runs in the final frame.
Miller (0-1) absorbed the loss for EW, allowing three runs on two hits in three innings of work. He also struck out seven.
Softball

Southern Wayne 5
DUDLEY -- Wingate commit Rebecca Coor went 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBI, but it wasn't enough to propel Southern Wayne past visiting South Lenoir on Thursday.
Caroline Summerlin also performed ably for the Lady Saints, going 1 for 3 with a double and two RBI. Kelly Dail, Mackenzie Bryan and Dawn Anderson added base hits for Southern Wayne (1-2), which travels to North Lenoir on Tuesday.

Beddingfield 1
WILSON -- Junior Abi Lewis converted a pair of penalty kicks, Shakia Doctor added two more goals and Goldsboro (2-1) waltzed by host Beddingfield on Thursday.
McKayla Roberts and Kelisha Daren also scored for GHS.
