Soccer

Wayne Country Day 9,

Wayne Christian 0

Wayne Country Day (5-1) ran quickly past Wayne Christian on the pitch Monday, registering nine goals and as many assists in the lopsided triumph.

Notching goals for the Chargers were Luis Lopez, Nehemiya Shaw, Marcus Metcalfe, Bash Attiah, Ben Cohen and Caleb Brewer.

Shaw's effort culminated in a hat-trick (three goals), while Brewer logged two one-timers.

The Chargers were assisted by Christian Garloch (3), Frank Best, Cam Gerrard, Nick Fletcher, David Gurley and Luis Lopez (2).

"It was a solid performance," head coach Steve Ellis noted. "We rotated everyone in and continued the same way... we avoided any new injuries before our next game against Neuse."

Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.

Charles B. Aycock 2,

Clayton 0

The Golden Falcons defeated visiting Clayton, 2-nil on Monday to move to 4-0 on the season.

CBA faces Hunt today in Wilson. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

Volleyball

Lee Christian 2,

SANFORD -- The Lady Eagles of Wayne Christian finished in second place this past weekend in the Lee Christian Falcon Classic.

After going 5-1 in pool play, WC lost in the championship match to Lee Christian by a score of 25-18, 29-27.

Hope Shook and Casey Norris were named to the all-tournament team.

Shook recorded 36 kills, 11 aces, 23 digs and two blocks for the weekend. Norris filed a 100 percent serve percentage with 5 aces and 79 assists.

Ashlee Harrelson also chipped in with 22 kills, eight aces and seven digs. Sarah Sawyer had nine kills and four aces while Ashton Cobb contributed nine kills and a block.

Holley Gurley had 12 digs and three aces. Adelyn Worling contributed 15 digs and two aces, and Amanda Morrel and Leah Boswell each recorded an ace.

Wayne Christian's next match is today in Roanoke versus New Life Academy.

Parrott Academy 3,

Eastern Wayne 0

Eastern Wayne dropped a non-conference affair Monday to Parrott Academy in straight sets, 25-21, 25-11 and 25-19.

Emily Newsome had 15 kills and 10 digs for the Warriors, while Naomi Williams tallied eight assists.

The Warriors fell to 2-3 on the season, and travel to face D.H. Conley today.

Pope John Paul 0

The Lady Chargers of Wayne Country Day dispatched visiting Pope John Paul in hurried fashion on Monday by a 25-7, 25-17, 25-19 count.

Hannah Neal and Lexi Jeffreys logged 14 kills apiece, while Lillian Freeman registered nine.

Grayson Jeffreys served six aces, and Cate Eagles tallied 34 assists.

Girls' golf

GREENVILLE --  New Bern won an early-season ECC 3-A/4-A golf match contested Monday at Greenville Country Club.

The Bears fired a 127, which bested second-place finisher Charles B. Aycock (154) by 27 shots. DH Conley finished third (167), followed by South Central (172), Southern Wayne (192) and J.H. Rose (210).

Julie Fiedler was the medalist with a round of 39.

CBA was led by Leah Campbell's round of 49, and also received a 51 from Abby Sauls and a 54 from Savannah Strickland.

Southern Wayne was paced by Cathryn Jones, who signed for a 58, and Amanda Murphy, who fired a 62.

Cross Country

Hayden Voeller paced Faith  Christian's effort at Wayne Country Day on Monday, finishing with a time of 22:28. Freshman Bryson Brock also ran well at 25:51, and was joined by 6th-grader Kamper Romito at 25:52.

JV

Volleyball

 Eastern Wayne  d. Parrott Academy 25-23, 25-23

Sophomores Ayanna Bynum and Vondalyn Swain had two kills apiece as Eastern Wayne turned back Parrott Academy for its first victory of the season.

"This is JV's first win," said head coach Anna Hajjar. "They did very well."
