MOUNT OLIVE -- The University of Mount Olive's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams received two major individual awards, and an eye-popping 33 all-region honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Freshman Leah Hanle was named the Southeast Regional female track athlete-of-the-year and will compete in the NCAA Division II outdoor track and field national championships, which begin today in Bradenton, Fla. The Germany native will run in the 5,000 meters and 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Hanle automatically qualifed in the 5k.

The Trojans' Jackie Kirby was named the Southeast Regional women's assistant coach-of-the-year. She also received regional coach-of-the-year honors upon the conclusion of the indoor track and field season.

The men's team had 17 all-region selections -- four each by Jonathan Dahlke and Nick Greynor, three by distance specialist Adam Craig and two by sophomore Guillermo Rendon-Alcala. Fredric Lang, Jacob Urys, Martin Bayles and Guillermo Matesanz each had one.

Dahlke qualified for the NCAA outdoor national meet in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Craig will take on the country's top competitors in the 5k and 10k events.

"They have all been here before, during cross country and indoor track and field," said UMO head coach Matt van Lierop of his outdoor national qualifiers. "They have all become All-Americans and we are hoping for more of the same during these outdoor championships. They know what they are capable of and now it's time to execute."

The women's team captured 16 all-region awards. Hanle picked up five. Teammates Alexis McNeil, Kelsey Valentine, Khadijah Kale, Ayanna King, Tunisia Prince, Hannah Glover, Deja Aycock, Meredith Lorient and Laneeja Sheppard each received one all-region award.

The top five individuals in each event from each region garner all-region distinction -- including members of the region's top three relay teams.
