SENIOR LEGION: Wayne County almost blows 9-run lead

KINSTON -- Wayne County Post 11 fended off a furious ninth-inning rally and launched its 2017 campaign with an 11-10 conquest of Area I East nemesis Kinston on Friday evening.
Wayne County led 11-2 through 81/2 innings.
Kinston sent 12 batters to the plate in the bottom of the ninth, cranked out seven hits and benefited from a Post 11 defensive miscue. Jack Casbarro logged a game-ending strikeout to save Wayne County.
Casbarro (two RBI), Tanner Wells (RBI) and Nolan Harrell (three RBI) paced Post 11's offensive attack with two hits apiece. Tyler Daniels contributed an RBI double in the first inning.
Starting and winning pitcher Aryc Chrisman provided a two-RBI double in the fifth inning. Catcher Lance Wise collected a pair of RBI groundouts.
Wayne County (1-0 overall, 1-0 East) opened the home portion of its 19-game schedule Saturday evening against Apex.
Post 11 is scheduled to entertain Whiteville for a doubleheader today. First pitch is noon at Scarbrough Field on the University of Mount Olive campus.
