CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Charlie Yorgen swatted a three-run home run and Evan Kruczynski worked six innings on the mound as eighth-seeded East Carolina hammered top-seeded UCF, 14-3, on opening day of the 2017 American Athletic Conference tournament Tuesday.

Yorgen nailed his three-run blast in the third inning.

In his third start of the season, Kruczynski (4-2) permitted two runs (one earned) on eight hits and sat down three UCF batters on strikeouts. Tyler Smith surrendered an earned run on two hits and posted three strikeouts.

Davis Kirkpatrick provided a scoreless ninth with two Ks.

ECU pounded out 14 hits -- three each from Travis Watkins and Greenfield product Dwanya Williams-Sutton. Yorgen and Spencer Brickhouse finished with two hits apiece.

UCF collected 11 hits.

The Pirates (30-27 overall) face fourth-seeded South Florida on Thursday. Game time is 7 p.m. at Spectrum Field.
