Warriors take extra-inning affair at Hunt

WILSON -- Eastern Wayne's defense threw out the game-tying run at the plate and escaped with an 8-7, eight-inning victory Friday afternoon.
The teams ended regulation play tied at 6-6.
Tanner Wells (3-for-5, three RBI) connected on an RBI and Ryan Warren (3-for-5, RBI) plated the eventual game-winning run with a double in the top of the eighth inning.
University of Charlotte signee Zack Smith batted 3-for-4 with a double. Lee Daniels contributed three hits and three RBI in five official at-bats. Brock Johnson provided a two-RBI hit.
EW and Hunt combined for 28 hits.
"It was a slugfest," EW head coach Jabo Fulghum said.
Wells started the bump and surrendered four earned runs on eight hits in a two-inning stint. Smith tossed four innings of two-run, five-strikeout relief and earned the mound win.
Collin Nix notched the save with one inning of one-strikeout relief.
