Preps digest: JV, middle schools

* Boys' basketball: Eastern Wayne 51, C.B. Aycock 26 -- Darrian Oates led three Warriors in double figures with 13 points. Matthew Ray-Sutton and Malik Williams chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively. Michael Evans paced CBA with nine points.

* Girls' basketball: C.B. Aycock 33, Eastern Wayne 17 -- Aycock remained unbeaten (13-0 overall) behind Hannah Vinson's 13-point effort. Destiny Washington added 12 points for the Golden Falcons, who held the Warriors scoreless in the second period.

* Girls' basketball: Wayne Country Day 35, Pope John Paul 16 -- Lexi Jeffreys emerged as WCDS' top scorer with 10 points. Destiny Williams added seven points as the Chargers rose to 5-3 overall this season.

* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 81, Pope John Paul 25 -- Mitch Turnage and Jack Talton knocked down 16 points apiece, while Marcus Metcalf flirted with a double-double (8 points, 11 assists) in the Chargers' road win. John Strickland (12 points), Zach Barfield (11 points), Sam Dively (nine points) and Nick Fletcher (eight points) all appeared on the stat sheet. WCDS (8-1 overall) faces Wilmington Christian on Tuesday.

* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 67, Rocky Mount Academy 38 -- DJ Waters scored 13 points to lead Wayne Country Day to a 29-point win over Rocky Mount on Thursday. PJ Hill added 11 points and Marcus Metcalf had nine. The Chargers are 7-1 on the year and travel to Pope John Paul today at four.

Middle schools

* Boys' basketball: Spirit of Life 40, Wayne Country Day 37 -- Sam Dively's 19 points weren't enough for Wayne Country Day to topple Spirit of Life on Thursday afternoon. WCDS (9-4 overall) plays Parrott Academy on Wednesday.

* Girls' basketball: Dillard 37, Spring Creek 17 -- T'ziah Kelly and Tyanna Morrison combined to score 27 points to lead Dillard. Ivey Rouse scored six for Spring Creek in the loss. Dillard (7-2 overall) travels to Eastern Wayne on Jan. 26.

* Boys' basketball: Grantham 64, Greenwood 52 -- Jamal King led all scorers with 32 points and DeAndre Wright added 22 in the Bulldogs' win. Chris Bullock and Isaiah Wilder each had 16 points for Greenwood. Grantham (8-1 overall) climbed to 4-0 against Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division II competition this season.

* Girls' basketball: Grantham 37, Greenwood 21 -- Erykah Baldwin scored 18 points to lead the Bulldogs past the T-Birds. Alexis Elliott contributed nine points to the win. Grantham (7-2 overall) remained perfect in four WCMSAC Division II outings this season.
