South Central started fast and earned its first win of the Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference soccer season on Thursday night.

The Falcons' offense posted five goals on seven shots in a 5-3 win over Eastern Wayne at Little Big Horn.

South Central got on the board first when Papa Ousman-Gueye collected a pass from Chris Pritchard and fired a shot home in the sixth minute. Luke Moore made the score 2-0 in the visitors favor with a goal in the ninth minute.

Eastern Wayne momentarily stemmed the tide in the 13th minute when Henry Nelson collected a rebound in front of the net and buried a quick shot. The momentum lasted 33 just seconds when South Central answered on a breakaway goal by Jordan Crass.

The Falcons (3-10-1 overall, 1-6-0 ECC) boosted the score 4-1 in the 28th minute when Ousman-Gueye tallied his second marker.

"It's been the same story all season," Eastern Wayne head coach Jorg Wagner said. "We play well in stretches and we play poorly in stretches. Tonight we were forced to be very aggressive because we were behind and a few mistakes put us further behind."

The Warriors mounted a comeback late in the first half.

Victor Kokiko fired a rebound shot home in the 33rd minute. Junior Flores scored in a similar fashion in the 37th minute to pull Eastern Wayne to within 4-3 at halftime.

Ousman-Gueye tallied the only goal of the second half when he completed his hat-trick in the 57th minute.

"Papa is a good player and he showed it tonight," Wagner said. "We need to realize that the ball can get through or the man can get through, but the man and the ball can never get through the defense the way he did."

Eastern Wayne (4-7-0, 1-6-0) travels to New Bern on Tuesday.
