• Wayne Country Day launched regular-season play with a 9-0 victory over The Epiphany School at Wayne Community College on Thursday afternoon.
It was the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A opener for both teams.
Sarah Best, Mollie McDonald, Meredith Roethling, Anna Allen, Aimee Barnes and Eliza Eagles each earned a singles point for the Chargers. The teams played pro sets (eight games).
Best-Allen, McDonald-Roethling and Barnes-Eagles completed the sweep in doubles.
Wayne Country Day (1-0 overall, 1-0 CPIC) plays host to Faith Christian-Rocky Mount on Aug. 21.
