PIKEVILLE -- Enjoying the spoils of another victory, Kevin Adkins was sharing a bag of popcorn with players on the bench midway through the second half of Charles B. Aycock's win on Wednesday night.

With one more victory, Adkins and his team will be sharing a much bigger prize -- an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference tournament championship.

Cheyenne Warrick scored three goals and had an assist, and the top-seeded Golden Falcons rolled past Triton 6-0 in the ECC semifinals at Hardy Talton Stadium. Aycock (17-3) entertains Eastern Wayne in Friday's finals.

The Golden Falcons controlled the possession from the outset.

Warrick's shot off Emily Borel's pass in the fourth minute was saved by Hawks' keeper Lindsay Walker. Walker saved Warrick's shot off a corner kick in the fifth minute as well as Britni Hauver's shot moments later.

Emily Borel's high, tailing shot off Warrick's assist in the 10th minute gave Aycock a 1-0 lead. The Golden Falcons continued to unleash their assault on the Triton defense. Warrick's header in the 14th minute sailed high. Her shot in the 16th minute went just wide and Walker was there to turn away Warrick's shot in the 17th minute.

Warrick extended the lead to 2-0 off an assist from Madison Mercer in the 28th minute. Aycock held a 13-0 edge in shots on goal in the first half.

Warrick scored off Alex Strickland's assist in the 42nd minute. Two minutes later, Mercer increased the lead to 4-0. Warrick's 60th goal of the season off Mercer's assist gave the Golden Falcons a 5-0 lead.

Borel's goal off Strickland's assist in the 71st minute capped the scoring.

"I told the girls at halftime that we didn't train for a week and then you come back and train for two days, and they don't train hard and it shows when you get out on the field that your touch is not there," said Adkins. "They tried to mark Cheyenne out of the ballgame in the first half. We came back in the second half with three quick goals and that put the ball game away."

Aycock's defense held the Hawks to two shots on goal and sophomore keeper Alex Van Meir earned the shutout in her first varsity start.

"Our defense is just very strong," said Adkins. "Sam Parrish, Jaden Thames, Cady Sheeks and Dani Paynter, they all played very solid. We can rotate them around or bring somebody else in there and they don't even miss a beat.

"Our young goalkeeper made two good saves tonight in her first varsity game."

The Golden Falcons won both meetings with Eastern Wayne during the regular season. The Warriors defeated Aycock 1-0 in last season's ECC tournament finals.

"I think it's hard to beat a team three times," said Adkins. "Eastern Wayne has had a lot of injuries both times we've played them. I think they're back to full strength now, so it will be interesting."
