• North Duplin opened Carolina 1-A Conference play with a 15-0 victory over Goldsboro on Friday afternoon.
Bailey Ellis endured the loss inside the pitcher's circle for the Cougars. She recorded two strikeouts in four innings and had Goldsboro's lone hit.
Skylar McCarty, Alonna Pate and Ansley Hill each had two hits for the Rebels. Pate recorded five strikeouts in three innings and earned the win in the pitcher's circle.
The Cougars play host to Rosewood on Monday.
