Albert Gideon “A.G," "Bert” Allen, 78, passed away Saturday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late William Robert Sr. and Hazel Hill Allen.

A.G. was a graduate of the Goldsboro High School Earthquakes, where he was a member and past president of the Goldmasquers.

An active member of First Christian Church, he worked as a radio broadcaster for WGBR and WFMC and a newscaster for WITN and WNCT.

He retired from Crown Petroleum as an area supervisor.

He was a member of the Third Century Singers since 1979, and had performed with local theatre groups and sang with various church choirs.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 at the First Christian Church in Goldsboro, with Dr. Fred Clarke and Dr. Penny Ziemer from First Christian Church and Dr. Glenn Phillips Jr. from First Baptist Church of Goldsboro officiating. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

The family will visit with family and friends at noon in the church fellowship hall.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Frances C. Allen; his son, Robert Allen (Kathy) of Wilmington his daughter ,Susie Daniels (Jeff) of Goldsboro; a brother, Dwight Allen (Robin) of Raleigh; a sister-in-law, Marie Allen of Raleigh; and grandchildren, Taylor Allen of Charlotte, Katie Williams (Eric) of Goldsboro, Blake Allen of Wilmington and Anna Daniels of Goldsboro.

Along with his parents, A.G. was preceded in death by two sons, David Wayne and Richard Britton Allen, and his brother, Bill Allen.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 1609 E. Ash St. Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, or Clifton Britton Scholarship Fund, Foundation of Wayne Community College, P.O. Box 8002, Goldsboro, N.C., 27533.

The family would like to express its heartfelt appreciation for the care given to Mr. Allen by those from Wayne UNC Health Care, the Brian Center, Community Hospice and Kitty Askins Hospice Center, as well as the outpouring of love, prayers and support to him and his family.
