Irene (Summers) Williams, 77, passed away on Nov. 3, 2017 in Hampton Roads, Va. She was born on Oct. 8, 1940, to the late Mamie Lee (Summers) Walker and Mr. Charlie Holloman Jr. in Goldsboro, N.C.

Irene's husband, retired Senior Master Sgt. Rufus "Rudi" Williams, of 49 years, preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 2008.

Irene was instrumentally dedicated and supportive to her professionally high-performance husband and his Department of the Army career at the time he became the Army's first African-American photojournalist.

Irene's lifetime professions were in banking and at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service during the time of her and her husband's retirement together in 2006.

The funeral itinerary for Irene is as follows: A memorial service will be held between the hours of 6-8 p.m. on Dec. 6, 2017 at Dignity Memorials, The Smith and Williams Funeral Home, located at 4889 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, Va., 23462; Dec. 7 the Arlington National Cemetery graveside burial assembly will be at 10 a.m., where she will at last be rejoined with Rudi, All Praises to the Most High Creator.

A repass lunch will be held at The Women in Military Service Memorial Museum, Gateway Arlington Cemetery, Washington, D.C., at 11 a.m., on the same day, Dec. 7.
