Mrs. Elva Darden Cottle, 90, lifelong resident of Faison, passed away Thursday night, Nov. 30, 2017, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Mrs. Cottle was retired from the Faison Fruit and Vegetable Exchange, where she served as bookkeeper for a span of 39 years. She also assisted her husband in working the burley tobacco markets in Tennessee and Kentucky. She was longtime member of the Faison United Methodist Church and the Faison Garden Club.

Those surviving Mrs. Cottle include a daughter and son-in-law, Laura Cottle Walter and, Mike Walter, of Raleigh; two grandsons, Scott Lane of Winston-Salem and John Walter of Raleigh; a great-granddaughter, Miranda Lane of Faison; a sister-in-law, Mary Dallas Cottle Sutton of Mount Olive; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ned and Janet Cottle of Goldsboro; many loving and caring cousins, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Clarence Cottle Jr.; a daughter, Doris Cottle Kirby; her parents, Jim and Cora Casey Darden; an infant brother; and "Oreo," her prized Shih Tzu companion.

Funeral services will be Sunday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. at Faison United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Jabe Largen, followed by burial in Faison Cemetery. Friends are being received at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Faison United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 417, Faison, N.C., 28341.
