MAGGIE T. MARTIN

Maggie Marie Turner Kornegay Martin, 88, died Aug. 1 in Benton, La.

Born in Duplin County, she was the daughter of the late Claude LeRoy Turner and Mattie Lee Lamb Turner.

She was also preceded in death by husbands, Albert Charles Martin and John Wesley Kornegay; sisters, Annie T. Reverts, Ida Bryd Hinson and Shirley T. Barnes; and brother, Earl Turner.

Maggie was formerly employed with Duke University Hospital as a registered nurse.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, The Odd Fellows and Rebekahs, The Association of Operating Room Nurses, The Duke University Retirement Association and The Charles Dickens Literary Club.

A service to celebrate Maggie's life will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Glenn Phillips officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Wayne Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Family members will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Maggie is survived by her daughter, Joan Kornegay of Louisiana; two sons, John Leroy Kornegay and wife, Diana, of Virginia and Wayne Kornegay and wife, Jacqueline, of Virginia; a brother, Leslie Turner and wife, Polly, of Mount Olive; sisters, Fonnie T. Copple of Goldsboro, Sallie T. Arnold and husband, Robert, of Ohio and Marva Dean T. Strickland and husband, John, of Goldsboro; a brother-in-law, Ray Barnes of Goldsboro; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
