George Handley Lancaster, 78, Jacksonville, passed away Monday, April 3, 2017, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
George was a loving husband, a dedicated father and beloved grandfather.
A retired master sergeant with 20 years in the United States Marine Corps, he served faithfully during the heaviest combat action of the Vietnam War.
He was known for his dedicated work ethic, as well as his sense of humor.
George shared his faith in practical ways, as a mentor to young Marines or a helping hand to those in need.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you would please donate to Kellum Baptist Church building fund.
George is survived by his wife, Rosa V. Lancaster; one son, Jay Lancaster (wife, Pauline); granddaughters, Tara, Tori and Amanda; and a sister, Alease Sanders.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel, with the Rev. Jody Yopp officiating. Military graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Lancaster Family Cemetery, Patetown Road, Patetown, N.C.
