TEMPIE JACKSON JONES

Feb. 1, 1920-April 5, 2017

Tempie Jackson Jones, 97, Pikeville, was called home Wednesday, April 5, 2017, to the loving arms of Jesus Christ her Lord.

Tempie was born in Wayne County Feb. 1, 1920, to the late William Matthew "Mack" Jackson and Rella Belle Hood Jackson. She was married to the late J.D. Jones.

In her younger years, she was nurtured by the members of Falling Creek Baptist Church in the Grantham community.

After completing her degree in education, Tempie became a beloved teacher and principal at Nahunta Elementary School, where she devoted her life to children for more than 32 years.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, and was presented the Long Leaf Pine Award in 1989.

A strong, independent woman whose smile could light up a room, Tempie enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with her family.

Tempie was a longtime member of Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Pikeville, where she was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary and served as president for 14 years.

She was devoted to her church, and was involved in many activities where she utilized her gifts and abilities to share the love of God.

A service to celebrate Tempie's life will be held Saturday, April 8, 2017, at 4 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Barry Stallings officiating.

The family will greet friends Saturday following the service at the church and other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law.

Interment will be Sunday, April 9, 2017, at 3 p.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.

Tempie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Wesley Wooten of Pikeville; grandchildren, Lauren Wooten Wolfe and husband, Bryan, and Jackson Wooten and wife, Suzanna; great-granddaughter, Lynnsey Ann Wolfe; brother and sister-in-law, Osco W. and Ruth Jackson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alex and JoAnn Aycock; and a dear friend at Brookdale, Jimmy Featherston.
