VALERIA H. SMITH

Mrs. Valeria Hart Head Smith, 91, Snow Hill, died Thursday evening, April 6, 2017, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
A native of Greene County, she was born Feb. 12, 1926, the daughter of Raymond Elias and Mary Ethel Gay Hart.
A graduate of Snow Hill High School, Valeria was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was an active member of Harrell's Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church, where she attended from birth.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Jim Head and H.B. Smith; a daughter, Kathy Head Scott; stepdaughter, Sonya Walker; and siblings, Doris Moore, Edna Frazier, Cleo Cress, Celia Wade, Virgil Hart, Raymond Hart Jr., Buren Hart and Wayne Hart.
Her surviving family includes her children, Larry V. Head and wife, Sarah, of Hookerton and Loretta Head Cox and husband, Buck, of Snow Hill; siblings, Lucy Hart Hill and Dewey W. Hart both of Hookerton; stepchildren, Ennette Thomas and husband, Glen, of Emerald Isle and Ben Smith and wife, Dori, of Fremont; grandchildren, Vance Head and wife, Beth, of Grifton, Jason Head and wife, Anna, of Ormondsville, Lenny Cox and friend, Misty, of Hookerton and Lesley Cox of Kinston; great-grandchildren, Mason, James, Allana, Elizabeth, Mary Carson, Gray, Katelyn and Payton; and numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 9, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Snow Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
