Katie Massengill Mitchell, 79, passed away on Saturday evening at her home.
Katie was born in Johnston County on Nov. 15, 1937, to the late Lonnie and Bertie Allen Massengill. She was married to the late William Lonnie Capps and Charles Daniel Mitchell. Katie loved New Hope Church of God and was a dedicated and faithful servant. Her most significant role in life and what she did best was being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed by all who were blessed enough to know her.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 1 to 2 p.m. at New Hope Church of God followed by a service celebrating Katie's life at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary with the Rev. Joseph Leonard and Dr. Charles Asby officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Katie is survived by her sons, Gary Capps and wife, Lydia of Goldsboro, Larry Dean Capps of Fuquay-Varina, and Robin Capps and wife, Renee of Goldsboro; daughter, Betty Jean Becton and husband, Gary of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Jamie Capps and wife, Trish, Jay Brantley Capps and Matthew Graham and wife, Desiree; great-grandchildren, Matthew Jackson, Noah Capps, Abigail Worthington and Lucas Graham; and was anticipating the birth of another great-grandchild in June.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Katie's memory to the building fund at New Hope Church of God, 702 E. New Hope Road, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.
