Luvy James Matthis, 83, died Wednesday morning at Countryside Village in Pikeville.

Born in Sampson County, he was born the son of the late Oscar Lee Matthis and Sudie Mae Peterson Matthis, and was the husband of the late Wilda Johnson Matthis.

He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, the former owner of Dependable Sanitation Services and owner of Atlantic Auto Truck Sales.

A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Church Cemetery in Magnolia.

The family will greet friends Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.

He is survived by his son, James Alan Matthis of LaGrange, and a sister, Maxine Mathis of Clinton.
