Ralph Barnes, 91, Fremont, passed away early Wednesday morning at Vidant Medical Center.

Ralph was born in Wayne County May 24, 1925, to the late Bryan and Ida Lane Barnes.

He was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation after 42 years of service.

Ralph was a charter member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church. He lived a life of dedication to his Lord and Savior and his family.

A service of remembrance will be held Friday, July 15, 2016, at 6 p.m. at Faith Free Will Baptist Church. Interment will take place Saturday, July 16, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Ralph is survived by his loving wife of five years, Hazel Sauls Barnes; children, Jessica B. Roach and husband, Rocky, of Martinsburg, W. Va., Connie B. McKinney and David of Roanoke, Va., Rose B. Jones and husband, Jeff, of Fuquay-Varina, Sam and Roxie Davis of Princeton, Richard and Rose Whitley of Eureka, David and Crystal Davis of Eureka, Roy and Judy Bodet of Elgin, S.C., and Todd and Beth Gwaltney of Eureka; grandchildren, Hannah and Daniel Roach, Joshua and Anna McKinney, Stacie and husband, Joe Ange, Leslie Jones, Charity Willoughby and husband, Todd, Hunter Davis, Brooke Whitley, Kayla, Nichole and Joshua Davis and Daniel Gwaltney; great-granddaughter, Harper Rose Ange; and sister, Margie Shirley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Lancaster Barnes; sisters, Mavis Hooks and Elizabeth Watson; and grandsons, Chris Ream and Steven Gwaltney.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service Friday evening at the church and at other times, at his home.
