Joyce Ward Lee Riley went to her heavenly home at the age of 87 Sunday, July 10, 2016 in Richmond, Va.
She was born March 17, 1929, in Greenville, N.C., to the late Hiram and Elba Ward.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Louise Robbins, Lee Davis, Helen Strong and Grace Cannon, and her brothers, James Ward and Charles Ward.
She was also preceded in death by Charles Owen Lee, the father of their two daughters.
Joyce is survived by her daughters, Jan Wicker (Chris) of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and Teri Casey (John) of Richmond, Va.; grandchildren, Paul Wicker (Meagan), Lee Wicker (Caroline), Caroline Flory (Matt) and Catherine Richards (Brad); great-grandchildren, Hannah, Sarah and Bethany Wicker, Frances Grace and William Flory and Evie and Anna Jane Richards; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Joyce lived in Goldsboro most of her life.
Her greatest working passion was being the owner of FAMA modeling school, helping mold young girls in the area into confident young women.
She was an unselfish and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Joyce was such a positive fun-loving person, who loved to laugh, and her smile always made others feel better.
She was known for the hundreds of chocolate pies she made. No matter the occasion, her chocolate pies made everyone feel loved.
The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff of Westport Rehab in Richmond, Va., for its loving care of Joyce. The staff loved her as much as she loved the staff.
A memorial service celebrating Joyce’s life will be held Saturday, July 16, 2016, at 1 p.m. in the sanctuary of St. Paul Methodist Church in Goldsboro, N.C., with the Rev. James Harry officiating.
The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Paul Methodist Church’s music department.
