JOHNATHAN B. BOWDEN

May 7, 1934-July 1, 2016

Johnathan Benjamin Bowden went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Friday, July 1. He was 82.

Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Willie H. and Naomi Davis Bowden.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Carl Bowden, and his sisters, Pearl B. Brogden, Cleone B. King and Carrie Lou B. Asbill.

Johnathan was a retired regional manager with Hooper Holmes Co., and had worked at Pulliam Motor Co. in Columbia, S.C., as a wholesale parts representative.

He loved his country, and served in the United States Army, and enjoyed square dancing with Star Promenaders of West Columbia, S.C.

John loved to talk about God’s good news wherever he went, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Olive.

A service to celebrate the life of John will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Felicia Fox, associate pastor of students and families at First Baptist Church in Mount Olive, officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Family members will greet friends Sunday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Bowden is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a sister-in-law, Alma Bowden.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to First Baptist Church in Mount Olive, 300 N. Chestnut St., Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.
