Hilda Barber Hardy, 82, of Seven Springs, peacefully passed away Monday, July 4, 2016. Hilda was born Nov. 15, 1933 and was the oldest of five children born to the late Clarence and Viola Braswell Barber.

Hilda utilized her gifts and abilities to share the love of God. She was an active member of Union Baptist Church for 72 years. Hilda was active in all areas of the church. She looked after the nursery, taught Sunday School to the young children, sang in the choir and for many years served on the Food and Remembrance Committee.

Hilda was a charter member of the Seven Springs Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. As matriarch of the family, Hilda dedicated her life to serving her family unselfishly. She cherished her role as wife, mother and grandmother. Hilda also loved working in her yard, gardening and tending to her flowers. She cherished her family heritage, enjoyed getting together with her sisters and loved being known as one of the “Barber Girls.”

A service to celebrate and honor Hilda’s life will be held Wednesday., July 6, 2016, at 11 a.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with Dr. Aubrey Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery.

Hilda is survived by her husband of 59 years, Sylvan Hardy; two sons, Tony Hardy and Warren Hardy and wife, Donna; six grandchildren, Toni Walker and husband, Kevin, Tanya Bennett and husband, Bryan, Travis Hardy, Christin Hardy, Connor Potter and husband, Ethan and Justin Hardy; four great-grandchildren, Caroline, Ava Gray, Brynn and Russell; three sisters, Rachel B. Herring, Tinkum B. Thornton and husband, Ernie and Sue B. Raynor and husband, Walt; and her caregiver, Kim Davis. In addition to her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Barber; and a brother-in-law, C.J. Herring.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 10-11 a.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com.
