Esther E. Thornton, 93, Four Oaks, died Tuesday, May 24, 2016.
Funeral service will be Thursday, May 26, 2016, at 1 p.m. at St. John Pentecostal Holiness Church, with the Rev. Jim Skinner and the Rev. Richard Parson officiating. Interment will be in Thornton Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, May 26, from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church.
Survivors include children, Linda Powell Sessoms and husband, Robert, Cathy Thornton Lee and husband, Paul, all of Salisbury, N.C., Dennis Morgan Thornton and wife, Ruby, Facie Everett Thornton Jr. and wife, Paula, all of Newton Grove, N.C., and Barbara Thornton Bryant James and husband, Harold, of Tappan, N.Y.; stepchildren, Nellie Thornton Westbrook, Jerry Lincoln Thornton and wife, Joan, all of Four Oaks and Arlene Thornton Strickland of Dunn, N.C.; siblings, Eloise Powell Warren and Joseph Preston Powell both of Clinton, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; 15 stepgrandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Facie Everett Thornton; son, Larry Brown Powell; infant, Phillip Powell; daughter, Bonnie Adele Thornton; and stepsons, Samuel Everett Thornton, Blake Thomas Thornton and Roger Dale Thornton.
Memorials may be made to SECU Hospice House of Smithfield or St. John Pentecostal Holiness Church.
