James Auburn Godwin, 89, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.
Graveside service, with visitation to follow, will be Thursday, May 26, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Sherman Dilley officiating.
The family will be receiving friends other times at the home.
Mr. Godwin was born in Johnston County Sept. 14, 1926.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Godwin, of 66 years.
He is survived by two sons, Sherwood Godwin of Grifton and Alvin "Al " Godwin of Virginia; one daughter; Paula Benton of Pikeville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Opal Massey, Frankie Talton and Jean Williams; and one brother; Douglas Massey all of Princeton.
The family would like to express its deep appreciation to his nurse, Patricia Pate, and Senior Companion, Vernise Artis.

The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro.
