Dec. 25, 1941-April 10, 2016

Jeanne Gray, Walnut Creek, peacefully passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Jeanne was born Dec. 25, 1941, in Pitt County to the late Eugene Hamilton Gray and Helen Johnston Gray.

Jeanne graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a minor in mathematics.

She then embarked on a 30-plus year career with Wayne County Public Schools. Jeanne primarily taught at Goldsboro High School.

She had a passion for her students and their well-being. Jeanne was especially fond of teaching honors English and the works of William Shakespeare.

Jeanne was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she had volunteered and sung in the choir.

She was presently attending St. Stephens Episcopal Church.

Jeanne loved caring for flowers and working in her yard. She enjoyed crafts and long walks through the neighborhood, and loved playing bridge with friends.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery, with the Rev. Ray Hanna officiating.

Jeanne is survived by a sister, Mary Margaret Kendrick and husband, Frank, of Columbia, S.C.; brother, Eugene Hamilton Gray Jr. and wife, Debbie, of LaGrange; three nephews, Chris Kendrick and wife, Brooke, and their children, Gray, Ben and Russie Kate, of North Charleston, S.C., Hamilton Gray and wife, Catherine, of Charlotte and Joseph Gray and wife, Chelsea, and their children, Molly and Fisher, of Arden; along with her former husband, Jack Peacock of Goldsboro.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her first husband, Wilson Harrison.

Jeanne's family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at her home, 202 Fox Den Lane in the Village of Walnut Creek.
