WILLIAM ADELBERT HUMPHREY

Aug. 10, 1926-March 10, 2016

Bill Humphrey, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died peacefully March 10, 2016, in Goldsboro, N.C., where he lived with his wife of 14 years, Martha Humphrey.

Mr. Humphrey was a longtime resident of Charles County, Md., where he lived until 2014 when he and Martha moved to North Carolina.

He is survived by Martha; his sons, Scot Humphrey, Gary West and Spencer West; and his daughters, Tina Humphrey Smith and Elizabeth West.

He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Bill was born and raised in Chetopa, Kan.

In June 1944, he joined the United States Navy, and fought in World War II. He retired after 20 years, and joined the Department of Defense as an explosives ordnance expert.

After 24 years with DOD, he continued his work with the government as a consultant on a number of international projects.

He was a member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church.

He died after a brief illness, surrounded by his wife and children. He was much loved, and will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
