KENDRICK J. HARRISON SR.

Aug. 6, 1924-Sept. 22, 2015

Kendrick James Harrison Sr., 91, LaGrange, peacefully passed away Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015, at his home.

Kendrick was born Aug. 6, 1924, in Greene County to the late Titus G. Harrison and Ruth Leneave Harrison.

Part of America's greatest generation, Kendrick believed in God, family and country.

He was a longtime member of LaGrange First Free Will Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and church treasurer, and sang in the choir. He desired to be remembered as a God-fearing Christian man with a loving heart for Jesus and his fellow man.

A lifelong farmer, Kendrick enjoyed working with his hands and watching things grow in nature. Kendrick loved the land and the life of the farmer.

Kendrick proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army, where he was a prisoner of war for just over four months.

Most important to Kendrick was his family. His quiet, simple life set an example for his son, granddaughters and great-grandchildren that will lead them all their lives.

A true outdoorsman, Kendrick enjoyed fishing and hunting.

A service to celebrate and honor Kendrick's life will be held Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015, at 7 p.m. at LaGrange First Free Will Baptist Church. Interment with military honors will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery.

Harrison Jr. and wife, Helen; two granddaughters, Tracey Harrison Roddy and husband, Chris, and Kendra Harrison Sullivan and husband, Mike; three great-grandchildren, Cooper Roddy, Grayson Sullivan and Logan Sullivan; and five siblings, Enzie Singleton, Holton Harrison and wife, Mary Margaret, Joseph Harrison and wife, Dootsie, Clifton Harrison and wife, Joyce, and Donnie Harrison and wife, Lucille.

In addition to his parents, Kendrick was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Hannah Beth Roddy, and six siblings, Elvie Ruth Holland, Maxie Harrison, Cleo Harrison, Holton Hillard Harrison, Dixon Harrison and Titus Harrison.

The family will receive friends Thursday following the service and at other times, will be at the home.
