ESCAR HAYMOND "SAM" SCRIVENS

Oct. 10, 1937-May 16, 2015

Escar Haymond "Sam" Scrivens, Goldsboro, N.C., went to be with the Lord May 16, 2015.

Sam was born Oct. 10, 1937, to David and Lucy Scrivens of Flatwoods, W. Va.

Sam faithfully served his nation for 25 years in the United States Army, retiring in 1978. He served two tours in Vietnam, and received several combat awards, as well as a Purple Heart. He retired as a command sergeant major.

After retirement, Sam served as the chief of police for Morven, Ga., until 1989.

He then enjoyed bowling, fishing and being a fisherman's guide. He was also a master woodworker, and enjoyed attending craft shows. Sam's favorite pastime was to play card games with his family on Sunday afternoons.

Along with his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his loving wife of 38 years, Nancy Louise Goins Scrivens.

He is survived by his current wife, Robin Scrivens.

Sam was truly loved, and will be dearly missed by his son, Tony Scrivens and his wife, Lisa, of Ray City, Ga., and daughters of Valdosta, Ga., Nannette Louise Cutlip and Penny Wills and her husband, Eric.

He also leaves behind a loving sister, Greta Petrie and her husband, Lew, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.

He was the proud grandfather of Chris, Tommy, Chad, Jerrid, Stacy, Nikki, Tiffany and Tamara, and great-grandfather of Mathew, Katarina, Kasson, Emma, Brody, Logan, Levi, Hunter and Jaxen.

He was loved by a niece, Melissa, and nephews, Michael and James.
