HAROLD JONES SR.

Apr. 26, 1949-Feb. 11, 2015

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Harold Cecil "Shorty" Jones Sr., 65, of Seven Springs, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015. Shorty was born April 26, 1949 to the late Harold Ray Jones and Doris Langley Jones. He retired from Electricon following 20 years of service. He later worked with Goldsboro Milling and Impulse. Always wanting to be busy, Shorty last worked with several local farmers during crop season and picked up other odd jobs to stay busy.

Creative and always working with his hands, Shorty took great pride in his yard and garden. A community servant and always wanting to help others in need, Shorty was a charter member of the Seven Springs Rescue Squad and was also a member of the Seven Springs Volunteer Fire Department. He served both organizations for 20 years. He was a member of Seven Springs United Methodist Church where he loved singing in the church choir. Shorty loved to cook and his barbecue was the talk of the area. An avid follower of sports, Shorty loved UNC basketball and enjoyed seeing Duke lose. In earlier years he loved softball and organized the first Seven Springs Little League Basketball. We were blessed by the love of a truly honorable, compassionate and humble man who touched the lives of many people.

A service celebrating Shorty's life will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Seven Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Shorty cherished his family and is survived by his wife of 16 years, Kathy Price Jones; three sons, Harold Cecil "Little Shorty" Jones Jr. and wife, Jennifer, Christopher A. Jones and Nelson William Tyner and wife, Scarlett; two grandchildren, Austin Goff and Camden Jones; two sisters, Freda Jones and Jean White and husband, Dave; brother, Ronnie Jones; brothers and sisters-in-law, Woodard and Judy Jackson, Malcolm and Carol Price; along with a "crap load" of nieces, nephews and cousins.
