JESSE GRAY SMITH

Jesse Gray Smith, 90, Dudley, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

Gray was born in Davie County on Feb. 3, 1924 to the late Stacy Kimbrough and Dora Smith Smith. He was married to the late Elizabeth Daughtry Smith. Gray proudly served his country during WWII in the China-Burma-India Campaign in the United States Army Air Corp.

Gray was a hard-working man, which was the theme of his life; he lived to work.

He was the kind of man who was loyal to his family, who took great pride in caring and providing for them.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Love Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Toler and the Rev. Arthur Warren officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

He is survived by his sons, Steve Smith and wife Laura, of Dudley; Butch Smith and wife, Linda, of Cary; Craig Smith and wife, Debbie, of Cary; and Lt. Col. (retired) Blake Smith and wife, Katerina, of Yuba City, Calif.; grandsons, Phillip Smith, Kevin Smith, Brian Smith, Shane Smith, Ashley Smith, Matthew Smith, Christopher Smith; granddaughter, Jennifer Smith; and great-grandchildren, Jacob Smith, Nicholas Smith, Kaitlyn Smith, Gray Smith, Cole Smith, Carson Smith, Brayden Smith, Allie Smith and Karis Smith; brother, Billy Smith of South River; sisters, Ruth Taylor of Taylorsville, Betty Fabiano of Newton, Ga. and Sue Wilson of Austin, Texas.

The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.

Died Dec. 20, 2014

George "Gary" Garrison Best, 49, passed away Saturday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

He was the son of George Henry Best of Goldsboro and Marie Kemple Best Teachey of Smithfield and a native of Wayne County.

Gary was employed with the Department of Corrections.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by sisters, Carla Denise McDaniels of Smithfield, Teasa Burdette of Goldsboro and Wendy Smith Rhodes of Albertson; nieces, Victoria Summer Smith and Chelsey McDaniels; nephew, Christopher McDaniels; and his best friend, dog Sarge.

There will be no formal service.
