MILDRED W. SMITH

July 10, 1921-Oct. 23, 2014

Mildred Williams Smith, 93, Seven Springs, moved to her heavenly home Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014.

She was born July 10, 1921, in Lenoir County to the late Lucky and Ellen Whitley Williams.

Mildred was wife of the late Harold D. Smith, and was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Smith and Max Smith.

Mildred or "Grandma Mildred" as she was affectionately known by everyone, was a godly woman who loved the Lord and her family. She set an example for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that will lead them all their lives.

Mildred was a longtime member of Seven Springs United Methodist Church. She was devoted to her church, where she sang in the choir for 75 years, taught the children's Sunday school class for 50 years and was involved in many activities, where she utilized her gifts and abilities to share the love of God. She passed her love of life and positive outlook to all who knew her.

Mildred had a sparkle in her eye and a heartwarming, generous spirit, and will be remembered for passing out candy to the children. When others were faced with difficulties, she could often be found sharing her wisdom or transporting those in need to the doctor, grocery store or wherever was needed.

Mildred was a beautiful person whose loving spirit and ever present smile radiated the joy she experienced in living every day of her life. She was deeply devoted to her family, and was happiest when she was spending time at the family gatherings on the first Thursday of each month.

She was also a lady of many talents. She had a love of quilting, and her split layer chocolate cakes have been enjoyed by many.

Grandma Mildred enjoyed sitting on the front porch, word searches, New York Yankees Baseball, bird watching and caring for her flowers.

Mildred was the rock of her family. Her husband, children and her beloved grandchildren knew that she loved them with all her heart, and she truly was a blessing to them.

A service of remembrance will be held Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, at 7 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, with pastor Larry T. Smith and her grandson, pastor Justin Smith officiating. Interment will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Seven Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery.
