INEZ S. NICKENS

Died Oct. 14, 2014

Inez Sasser Nickens, Goldsboro, widow of the Rev. Graham Nickens and daughter of the late Carl and Bertha H. Sasser, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014, at Independence Village in Raleigh.

She is survived by a son, Shelton Nickens and wife, Susan, of University Park, Md.; daughter, Tricia N. Willoughby and husband, Colon, of Raleigh; grandchildren, Shannon N. Vetter, Hollis N. Simodynes, Jesse W. Nickens, Elizabeth W. Harrell and Mary Graham Willoughby; and five great-grandchildren.

Inez and her husband faithfully served United Methodist churches in the Eastern North Carolina Conference for 37 years. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Goldsboro, where she was named Layperson of the Year in 1992. She was a member of United Methodist Women. Inez also served for many years as a volunteer in the St. Paul Office Guild.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with the Rev. James Harry officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday following the service in the church parlor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 204 E. Chestnut St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

The family would like to express its sincere appreciation for the compassionate care provided by friends and staff at Independence Village and Senior Bridge. Love and heartfelt thanks are expressed to her caregivers and friends, Juanita Bailey, Allison Richardson, Wendy Kistner and Hazel Hines.
