NORBORNE GEE SMITH JR.

Norborne Gee Smith Jr., Goldsboro, died Tuesday peacefully at his home with his family by his side.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at Willow Dale Cemetery, with pastor Phyllis Vail officiating.

The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.

Mr. Smith was born in South Hill, Va., Oct. 10, 1920. His parents were Norborne Gee Smith and Alice Perrye Dortch Smith.

He was married for 56 years to Kathleen Powell Smith.

Boye Smith attended Goldsboro High School, where he graduated at age 15. He attended North Carolina State College, and then Bowling Green University, where he graduated with a business degree.

During World War II, Boye was a flight instructor at the Walnut Ridge Army Air Force flying school.

Some of his most animated moments recently were when he would discuss flying with his family and friends.

Boye was an outdoorsman, who loved to hunt, fish and cook wildlife.

After the war, he attended the School of Law at the University of Virginia, and was later admitted to the North Carolina and Virginia bar. He spent his entire career working as a CPA in Goldsboro, initially working with his father, and later in his own firm. He practiced accounting up to his last year of life.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife; two children, Alice Perrye Smith and Norborne Gee Smith III and wife, Jeannette Wellons Smith; five grandchildren, Westley Smith Dean and wife, Kathryn, James Mac Dail and his friend, Lindsay Parks, of Goldsboro, Lindley Kathleen Smith, Carter Lee Smith and Norborne Gee Smith IV of Haverford, Pa.; and a great-grandchild, Ella Grace Dean of Goldsboro.

The family would like to thank Mr. Smith's longtime care givers, Sonya Mozingo and Doug Brewington.
