Frances Newsome Dawson, 78, Goldsboro, went to be with her Lord and savior Wednesday morning, Sept. 17, 2014, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Friday evening, Sept. 19, 2014, at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro.

The family will receive friends afterward, and other times at the home of Donald and Vonda Earp, 317 Capps Bridge Road.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Princeton.

Mrs. Dawson was a native of Wayne County, born Dec. 3, 1935, to the late Arnold Joabe and Ruby Hazel Sullivan Newsome.

She was a charter member of Rosewood First Baptist Church, and faithful member of Victory Free Will Baptist Church. She served as past Sunday school teacher, past member of Lamp Lighters Home Extension Club and American Business Women's Association and a member of Woodman of the World.

Mrs. Dawson also retired from O'Berry Center.

A loving mother and devoted grandma/mema, she is survived by her son, Roger "Coleman" Dawson Jr. and wife, Kimber, of Pikeville; two daughters, Pamela Dawson Howard and husband, Cecil, of Goldsboro and Vonda Dawson Earp and husband, Donald, of Princeton; a brother, David Ralph Newsome of California; two sisters, Doris Thompson of Leland and Betty Quakenbush of Florida; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dawson was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Coleman Dawson Sr.; her daughter, Vickie Charlene Dawson; a granddaughter, Scarlet Howard; and her brother, Arnold Newsome Jr.

The family is being served by Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro.
