Luby Albert Meyers, 72, Key West, Fla., died Aug. 4 at the home of his niece in Weston, Fla.
He was a native of Wayne County, and the son of the late John and Myrtle Meyers.
L.A. was the brother of the late Jean Meyers and the late Bobby Meyers and his late half sister, Lucille Marshall.
He is survived by his sister, Gail Meyers of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and nieces and nephews, Vickie Persaud of Weston, Lisa and Jose of Miami, Sherry Jean and Gina of Charlotte, Scott and Jana Stokes of Dallas and Tommy Meyers of Charlotte.
Key West locals remember L.A. and say they have lost a member of their own royal family, a longtime community activist, local television personality and female impersonator, L.A. Meyers, aka LaLa Belle.
The celebration and scattering of the ashes will be in Key West Sept. 12 around 6 p.m. It will start at the Aqua on Duval Street and finish at the southernmost pier.
