RALPH H. BURROUGHS SR.

May 27, 1943-Sept. 5, 2014

Ralph Holden Burroughs, Sr., 71, Goldsboro, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, passed peacefully into that far better life with his Lord and savior and with those beloved family who went on before Friday, Sept. 5, 2014.

His courage during this fight was typical of his strength of character, reflecting his loyalty and dedication to and deep love for his family and his zest and love of life.

Ralph was born in Wayne County May 27, 1943, to the late James and Ruby Lewis Burroughs.

He had worked for many years in shipping at Packaging Corp. of America.

Ralph served his country in the United States Air Force, and was a member of Rosewood First Baptist Church.

Along with a tireless commitment to help the underprivileged in Goldsboro, Ralph had been active in the ministry at House of Fordham with his wife Linda, volunteering to make a difference in someone's life.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014, from 4 to 5 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service celebrating Ralph's life at 5 p.m. in the chapel, with Dr. Penny Ziemer officiating. Interment will be Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda Arnold Burroughs; son, Ralph Holden Burroughs Jr.; sisters, Carol Anderson and husband, Norwood, Julia Darden and Lou Ellen Smith and Gerald Smith; brother, James Dick Burroughs and wife, Christine; mother-in-law, Lillie Arnold; and sister-in-law, Dixie Burroughs.

He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and a dear cousin, Evalyn Blythe, who offered so much love and support during Ralph's declining health.

In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Burroughs, and his brother-in-law, Bobby Darden.

Memorials may be given to House of Fordham, P.O. Box 1272, Goldsboro, N.C., 27533.

Ralph's family would like to acknowledge the staff of Kitty Askins Hospice Center, as well as the friends, caregivers, nurses and physicians, who had a profound impact on the quality of Ralph's life in recent years.

Special thanks go to Ralph's oncologist, Dr. I-Wen Chang, and Shelley Thompson in radiology at Wayne Memorial Hospital; together they demonstrated what constitutes excellent love and medical care.
