FRANCIS "F.W." STANLEY JR.

Francis "F W" Stanley Jr., 84, died Friday at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.
A native of Goldsboro, he was preceded in death by his parents, Nannie "Nita" Howell Stanley and Frances West Stanley Sr., and a sister, Elizabeth Howell Stanley.
F.W. was the last member of the Stanley family, who owned and operated Stanley Funeral Home of Goldsboro, a local business that spanned five generations of his family.
He was a graduate of Goldsboro High School class of 1947 and Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1953, and was the only person to date who has scored a perfect "100" on the North Carolina State Board Funeral Service exam.
He earned his bachelor's degree at East Carolina University and his master's degree at Florida State University.
He was a public school teacher encompassing 50 years of service.
F.W. was past master of Goldsboro Masonic Lodge No. 634 A.F. and A.M.
He served as secretary of BPOE of Shelby for a number of years.
Funeral Sept. 8, 2014, Monday, at 3 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral chapel in Shelby. Committal will be in Sunset Cemetery in Shelby.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to John Knox Presbyterian Church, 610 Charles Road, Shelby, N.C., 28152, where F.W. was a very active member.
