JOSEPHINE LANIER

Josephine Brinson Lanier, 96, Lyman Road, Chinquapin, N.C., died Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at Carolina East: Milford and Reba Quinn Hospice Care Center in Kenansville, N.C.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at Padgett Funeral Home, Wallace, N.C.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at Lanier's Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church, 746 Ludie Brown Road, Chinquapin, N.C. Burial will follow at Lanier Family Cemetery.

A native of Cedar Fork community, Duplin County, Mrs. Lanier was married to the late Richard Ralph Lanier of Chinquapin.

Born Sept. 7, 1917, to the late Frank N. and Kate Southerland Brinson, she was a retired homemaker and agribusiness proprietor.

She was a member of Lanier's Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church.

Mrs. Lanier enjoyed cooking, gardening and music, but most of all, being with her family.

She is survived by her four children, Frances Kate Lanier Brown (husband, Michael Brown) of Clinton, Billie Jo Lanier Stroud (husband, James B. Stroud Jr.) of Magnolia, Douglas Lynn Lanier (wife, Wanda Bell Lanier) of Chinquapin and Richard Ralph Lanier Jr. (wife, Kay Pickett Lanier) of Beulaville.

She is also survived by her older sister, Edna Brinson Jones of Kentucky.

Her grandchildren are Richard F. Lanier, William C. Lanier and wife, Wendy, Molly Kay Lanier Sholar and husband, Vann, Christian Lanier Mills and husband, Donnie, Michael T. Brown Jr. and wife, Heidi, Richard Thomas Brown and wife, Kara, Jennifer Stroud Anderson and husband, Michael, Jessica Stroud Kennedy and husband, Adam, and James (Ben) Stroud III and wife, Sara.

Her great-grandchildren are Haley Lanier Craft and husband, John Grayson, Caden Lanier, Zachary Sholar and wife, Rachel, Seth Sholar and wife, Megan, Kaylyn Sholar, Michael Brown III, Leo Brown, Madi Brown, Tyson Brown, Will Anderson, Kate Anderson and John Isaac Kennedy.

Her great-great-grandchild is Laney Sholar.

Casketbearers will be Richard Lanier, William Lanier, Michael Brown Jr., R. Thomas Brown, James B. Stroud III and Donnie Mills.
