JAMES MARCUS TAYLOR

July 20, 1925-July 24, 2014

James Marcus Taylor, 89, a lifelong resident of the Taylor Town community near Faison, passed away Thursday, July 24, at Warsaw Health and Rehabilitation.

Marcus was born July 20, 1925, in Faison, N.C., the third child of Herman and Julia Moore Taylor.

Marcus was a member of Bowdens Presbyterian Church and Warsaw Masonic Lodge.

He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines and United States Army, serving in both World War II and the Korean War.

He was a well-known area farmer, and was highly regarded for his farming skills in raising collards and produce.

He retired from Hevi-Duty Electric, now SPX, in Goldsboro after 22 years of working second shift, allowing him to still farm during the day.

The service to celebrate his life will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Community Funeral Home in Warsaw, N.C. The Rev. Richard "Peanut" Whitman of Bowdens Presbyterian Church will be officiating.

Visitation will be held immediately following the service.

Burial will be Monday, July 28, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Devotional Gardens, with the Rev. Russ Evans officiating.

Marcus is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maxine Ennis Taylor; his three sons, Jeffery Ennis Taylor and wife, Kathryn, of Castle Hayne, Robert Reed Taylor and wife, Beverly, of Faison and Frankie Paul Taylor and wife, Anglia, of Mount Olive; his daughter, Julia Taylor Herring and husband, Kevin, of Kenansville; his 10 grandchildren, Victoria Taylor Sanders and husband, Mike, Dana Herring Turnage and husband, Michael, Marc Taylor, Amberly Herring, Holly Horne, Ethan Taylor, Georgia Taylor, Parker Taylor, Noah Taylor and Maxton Herring; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan Turnage and Molly Sanders.

In addition to his parents, Marcus was preceded in death by a son, James Marcus Taylor Jr.; a brother, Ray Lee Taylor Sr.; a sister, Ava Taylor Smith; a half-brother, Edwin Victor Taylor; and a half-sister, Julia Marie Taylor Bryan.

Flowers welcome or memorials may be made to Bowdens Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice.

A special thanks to the doctors and staff of Warsaw Health and Rehabilitation for their love and care of Marcus during his illness.
