WILDA J. MATTHIS

Wilda Faye Johnson Matthis, 80, died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Born in Sampson County, she was the daughter of the late Amos J. Johnson and Estelle Malpass Merritt Johnson and sister of the late Amos James Johnson.

Wilda was retired from Carolina Power and Light Co. following 35 years of service.

She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and a charter member of Goldsboro Exchangette Club.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home chapel Friday at 11 a.m.

Family members will greet friends at the funeral home immediately following the service, with burial to follow in Trinity Church Cemetery.

She is survived her husband, Luvy James Matthis; a son, James Alan Matthis of Goldsboro; her sister-in-law, Jo Johnson of Mount Olive; and nephews, Amos James Johnson of Atlantic Beach, Fla., Edward S. Johnson of Four Oaks and Brian Keith Johnson of Asheville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in memory of Wilda may be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church, 714 Club Knolls Road, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.
